Embarking on a braces journey at Walt Orthodontics means embracing a transformation that leads to a healthier, more beautiful smile. One common question we often hear is: “How can I speed up my braces treatment?” While the duration of orthodontic treatment varies for each individual, there are several proactive steps you can take to ensure your journey with braces is as efficient as possible.

Adherence to Orthodontic Guidelines

First and foremost, following the instructions provided by your orthodontist is critical. This includes adhering to any specific guidelines about braces care or lifestyle adjustments. Our Additional Care page provides more insights into what these guidelines typically entail.

Maintaining Optimal Oral Hygiene

Effective oral hygiene is paramount when you have braces. Brushing and flossing diligently is more than just about keeping your teeth clean; it also helps in maintaining an environment conducive to effective tooth movement. Check our Recommended Products section for more tips on maintaining oral health with braces.

Dietary Considerations

Your diet can significantly impact the progress of your braces treatment. Avoiding foods that are hard, sticky, or chewy is essential, as these can damage the braces and impede progress. For more information on what foods to avoid, visit our Life with Braces page.

Regular Orthodontic Appointments

Keeping up with your scheduled orthodontic appointments is crucial. These visits allow for necessary adjustments to your braces, ensuring that your treatment stays on track. Missing appointments can delay your progress, so it’s important to be consistent.

Use of Orthodontic Devices as Advised

If your treatment plan includes additional orthodontic devices like elastics, it’s important to use them as instructed. These devices are designed to enhance the effectiveness of your braces and ignoring their use can extend treatment time.

Patience and Realistic Expectations

While it’s natural to seek ways to expedite your treatment, it’s also important to have patience and realistic expectations. Orthodontic treatment is a gradual process that requires time to achieve optimal results. Trust the process, and remember that the end goal is a beautiful, healthy smile.

Top 3 Reasons

From our experience we would say the top 3 reasons why treatment is delayed are:
1. Not following elastic or aligner protocol
2. Broken brackets (not following food guidelines)
3. Inability to attend regular appointments
By not following down the rabbit hole of these three reasons, we can keep treatment on target and expedite it with great compliance!
