David was born and raised in Thornhill. As an adolescent, he received braces to fix his bite. However, his case was very complex and could not be properly corrected at the time. Unbeknownst to him, this early experience was to shape his professional career.
Dr. Walt received his dental (DDS) degree from the University of Western Ontario, graduating first in his class and receiving the Gold Medal. He also won numerous awards recognizing his scholastic and clinical achievements, as well as his leadership and character. During dental school, Dr. Walt began learning about orthodontics, which motivated him to revisit his own case and sparked his decision to pursue specialty training.
Dr. Walt completed his orthodontic training at the University of Colorado, where he received both his Specialty Certificate and Master of Science Degree. During his residency, he was awarded the Rocky Mountain Orthodontics Scholarship for overall excellence. Dr. Walt trained using some of the latest technologies available, including Invisalign®, “hidden” or lingual braces, temporary anchorage devices (TADs), soft tissue diode lasers, and three-dimensional cone beam computerized imaging.
It was also during this time that Dr. Walt’s years of research into his own case culminated in his decision to attempt correction of his bite again – this time using braces in conjunction with corrective jaw surgery. The experience was positively life changing and gave Dr. Walt a unique and very personal understanding of how orthodontics can radically transform one’s appearance and smile.
In addition to practicing orthodontics, Dr. Walt is a “die-hard” Blue Jays fan, as well as enjoys working out and skiing. He is also an Adjunct Clinical Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at Western University.
